SUSPENDED DRIVER FOUND OVER THE LEGAL LIMIT
(HOWICK, ON) – A Mildmay man is facing an Over-80 charge and a Drive Under Suspension charge after he was stopped by police April 4.
Just after 9:30 p.m., a Huron County OPP officer observed a Pontiac Montana mini-van travelling in the middle of the road on Salem Road. The investigating officer then watched as the van turned into a private driveway.
The officer followed the vehicle and proceeded to speak with the driver who identified himself to the officer and upon doing so, informed the officer that he held a suspended driver’s licence.
Also, upon speaking with the man, it was noted he had been consuming alcohol. A roadside screening test was performed and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the North Perth OPP detachment for breath tests. He later provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both samples registered over the legal limit.
A driver’s licence check was performed and it confirmed the man held a suspended driver’s licence.
As a result, 47-year-old Jerry ORTMAN of Mildmay has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and Drive Under Suspension. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Wingham, June 18. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
