Drug-impaired driver found sleeping behind the wheel
(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) - A 52-year-old Harriston man and his 39-year-old passenger are both facing criminal charges, following a traffic stop that took place near Dungannon Wednesday morning.

Just after 8 a.m., May 2, Huron County OPP were dispatched to check out a driver who appeared to be sleeping in his vehicle parked on Lucknow Line near Glen's Hill Road.

Upon arrival, police found both the driver and passenger sleeping in the vehicle. Police woke up the occupants and upon speaking with the female passenger, it was learned she was wanted on an outstanding warrant from South Bruce OPP. 

Additionally, police discovered there was open alcohol in the vehicle. A subsequent search of the motor vehicle revealed a small quantity of methamphetamine and cannabis marijuana inside the vehicle.

While speaking with the driver, police noted he was exhibiting signs that he was under the influence of a drug and his ability to drive was impaired. As a result, the driver was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP detachment for further testing by a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE). Upon completion of the DRE tests, it was determined the driver was impaired by a drug.

52-year-old Richard MARTIN of Harriston has been charged with Care and Control While Impaired by a Drug, Possession of a Schedule II Substance - Cannabis Marijuana and Possession of a Schedule I Substance Methamphetamine. He has been released from custody with a court date scheduled for May 28, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.

39-year-old April TONE of Harriston has been charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance - Cannabis Marijuana, Possession of a Schedule I Substance Methamphetamine and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. She was released from custody with a court date scheduled for May 28, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
