Traffic complaint leads to arrest of impaired driver
(CENTRAL HURON, ON) - A 56-year-old Goderich man is facing a charge of Impaired Driving, following a traffic stop that took place in Clinton earlier this week.

Monday, May 7, at 4:37 p.m. Huron County and Perth County OPP officers received multiple traffic complaints about a possible impaired driver travelling westbound on Highway 8 from Stratford.

Patrol units began searching for the suspect vehicle and at about 5:30 p.m., a Huron OPP officer spotted the vehicle travelling westbound into Clinton.

A traffic stop was conducted and upon speaking with the male driver, the investigating officer noticed signs he was under the influence of a drug. A field sobriety test was conducted whereupon the driver performed poorly. As a result, he was placed under arrest for Impaired Driving and was transported to the Sebringville OPP detachment for further examination.

Ultimately, he was examined by a Drug Recognition Evaluator and it was determined the driver was indeed impaired by a drug.

Consequently, 56-year-old Robert McFARLANE of Goderich has been charged with Driving While Impaired by a Drug. He has been released from custody with a court date scheduled for June 11, at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.

His licence has been suspended for 90 days and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

*THIS CHARGE HAS YET TO BE PROVEN IN COURT*
