Some people find extra 50 feet to crosswalk too difficult to walk, say readers
To the Editor:
RE: “Use crosswalks for your safety in downtown Kincardine, says reader”
After reading Bob Richards' response to this last downtown pedestrian accident, we would just like to add a little comment of our own.
First of all, we do agree with Mr. Richards’ remarks about people crossing between crosswalks. However, the pensioner who was knocked down July 26, is someone we have known for about 30 years. So, we are acquainted with this person’s state of health, which among other issues includes arthritis, making it difficult for the person to walk 50 feet, never mind an extra 50 feet to the crosswalk.
This person does not own a car and cannot afford a mobility cart, but still has to get around town, and sometimes has to pay to go to the grocery store; we have also seen this person walking home with bags of groceries and gladly given the person a lift.
Just wanted to set things straight; not everyone falls into traditional slots. Some people fall between the cracks, and unfortunately, this person is one of them, whether or not the person was cutting across between crosswalks. It just hurts to walk.
However, we would like to thank Mr. Richards for bringing up this important issue, with which we do agree.
Thank you,
Mr. and Mrs. S. Pepper
RR 1, Kincardine
