Declan Mowle off to provincial Skills Ontario competition in May
A Grade 10 student at Kincardine District Secondary School has qualified for the provincial Skills Ontario competition, May 5, in Waterloo.

Declan Mowle, son of Kevin and Joan Mowle of Kincardine, competed in the small engine performance division at the regional Ontario Skills contest March 27 in Owen Sound. He placed second, and received a Stanley tool set, valued at $380.

He was then eligible to attend the qualifying competition in Barrie where he, once again, took second place. This means he advances to the provincial competition in Waterloo, May 5 - the first Grade 10 student from KDSS to do so.

Taking place May 4-6, the Ontario Technological Skills Competition (OTSC) is Canada's largest skilled-trades competition. With more than 65 contests, 1,900 competitors and 20,000 spectators, the hallways at RIM Park in Waterloo swell with trembling hands, cheers and the smile of a proud parent.
The OTSC offers a unique opportunity for top students to demonstrate that they are the best of the best in their field. Over the two-and-a-half days, they turn the heads of their educators, families, friends and prospective employers.
Winners are awarded with gold, silver or bronze medals - and some with monetary awards - and the opportunity to compete at the Skills Canada National Competition. From there, competitors could be headed to a World Skills Competition.

Skills Ontario is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the skilled trades and technologies.
