Reader offers solution to overnight parking problem
To the Editor:
RE: “Overnight parking in municipal lots causes problems for clearing snow, says Weishar”
I feel for those who think they are being responsible by not driving home after a few drinks, but I must question this thinking. If you are truly responsible, you would not allow yourself to become impaired while your vehicle is parked in an inappropriate location for an overnighter.
It is imperative that the streets and parking lots be cleared of vehicles when it is time to plow. Otherwise, there are major liability issues for the municipality.
However, humans being humans, they will get caught in this catch-22. I’m not perfect, and this may happen to me, and if it does, I would fully expect to suffer the consequences.
Perhaps the solution to this problem is to designate an area in the municipal parking lot for potential vehicular sleepovers. For example, allow parking from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. Tow away from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (December to Marc), and plow that section during the daylight hours.
Would this work? I hope so.
