Two local skaters off to Special Olympics Provincial Winter Games
Rosie Laidler of Kincardine and Brooke Thomas of Ripley are headed to the Special Olympics Provincial Winter Games after qualifying by winning their events at the 2017 Regional Skating Competition.
The pair will compete at the provincials, slated for Jan. 31 to Feb. 3, in Sault Ste. Marie, representing the Central District Team, along with two athletes from Orillia and one from Peterborough. Joining them, is provincial Special Olympics coach Nicole Handy-Richardson of Ripley.

Meanwhile, Brooke of the Ripley-Huron Skating Club, competed in the Regional West Special Olympics Figure Skating Competition held in Waterloo, Friday, Dec. 14.
She won gold in the Level 1 Freeskate event. She also won gold in the first Level 1 dance event and then went on to win silver in the finals of the same event.
Brooke represented the Kincardine and District area for Special Olympics along with teammate, Rosie Laidler.
