KDSS swimmer captures overall junior boys high school title in Guelph

The Kincardine District Secondary School swim team had an epic showing at District 10s, hosted at the University of Guelph pool, Thursday.

In his first year on the team, Grade 10 swimmer Zack Eybergen placed first overall in the junior boys division.

The junior girls medley team of Kennedy Urie, Elle Cottrill, Abby Hegmans and Taylor Carney, advances to CWOSSA, after finishing fourth.

Moving on to CWOSSA for individual events are the following swimmers:
 

• Taylor Carney, who led the charge with a 1st in the 50-m freestyle, pitted against 50 other swimmers! Taylor also placed 8th in the backstroke and 5th in breaststroke
• Jenna Row, who powered her way to a 2nd in the 100-m breast, a 4th in the senior girls individual medley (IM), and a 5th in the 50 m freestyle
• Zack Eybergen, who placed 3rd in the 50-m Free, and hopped back in the pool, determined to qualify for CWOSSA. He left it all in the pool as he powered his way to a 2nd in the backstroke and 100-m freestyle, moving on to CWOSSA in the 100-m freestyle

Also breaking the top 10 with some noteworthy finishes were:
 

• Lucas Bronkhorst, 1st in junior boys backstroke, 4th in breaststroke, and 10th in the 50-m freestyle
• Abby Hegmans placed an impressive 3rd in the gruelling 100 IM, 6th in the 100-m butterfly and 7th in the 50-m breaststroke
• Kennedy Urie was 5th in the 50-m fly and 9th in the 50-m backstroke
• Elle Cottrill placed 5th in the junior girls 100-m freestyle, and 10th in the 50 m breaststroke
• Maia Hinchberger was 3rd in the 100-m backstroke, and 7th in the senior girls 100-m freestyle

Finally, congratulations to Chris McLarty and Kaelin Dewar who both achieved personal bests in the 50-m freestyle 0 the ideal way to end the season!
