Bulldogs edged 5-4 in opening game against Wingham

The Kincardine Fairmount Security Junior “C” Bulldogs lost the opening game in their semi-final series against the Wingham Ironmen, 5-4, in overtime, Sunday night in Wingham.

Kincardine opened the scoring midway in the first period when Keegan Angel scored on the powerplay from Logan Swanton and Logan Freiburger.

Jordan Caskenette put the 'Dogs ahead two, scoring early in the second, from Mike Fiegehen and Swanton.

Minutes later, Wingham capitalized on the powerplay, making it a 2-1 game going into the third.

Early in the third, Wingham tied the game at 2-2, before Brent West worked the powerplay to put the Bulldogs ahead again, assisted by Grant Stevens.

Seconds later, Caskenette scored from Jake Fair to make it a 4-2 game for the 'Dogs. However, Wingham managed to tie things up at 4-4 by the end of regulation time.

And then, just over seven minutes into the overtime period, Wingham's Shane Vollmer scored the game-winner. Ironically, Vollmer, who lives in Kincardine, used to play for the Bulldogs.

Kincardine hosts Wingham Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Davidson Centre; game time is 7:55 p.m.
