Charity hockey game in Goderich raises almost $3,500 for Victim Services

(HURON COUNTY, ON) - The annual "Guns & Hoses" Charity Hockey game was a great success with a fast-paced and action-packed game played before a large crowd at the YMCA in Goderich.

The Huron County OPP Ice Hogs should've listened to coach "Grapes" as they ultimately blew an early two-goal lead. The Ice Hogs pressed but the stellar goaltending and solid team play of the Goderich Fire Selects was up to the challenge. 

Heading into the third period, the game was tied, 2-2, and it was looking like overtime until the Fire Selects fired in a rebound for the game-winning goal, with just over five minutes to play. 

A last minute fury of pressure was thwarted by the firefighters but they hung on and eventually iced the game with an empty-net goal, triumphing to a well-deserved 4-2 win. 

The action on the ice was great but the overall winner from this event was Victim Services of Huron County. A whopping $3,500 was raised for the organization, and $1,225 was raised through a 50/50 draw, and donated to a local family to help support their child's medical needs and associated costs.

The Huron County OPP, Goderich Fire Department and Victim Services Huron sincerely thank the generous sponsors, volunteers and all the fans, who helped make this event such a tremendous success.
