Team It's All Gone To Shitz gearing up for Gutsy Walk June 7

Team It's All Gone to Shitz of Ripley and Kincardine, is busy fund-raising for the 2015 Grey-Bruce Gutsy Walk for Crohns and Colitis Canada, slated for Sunday, June 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Walkerton and District Community School.

Led by Emily Lotton, who suffers from ulcerative colitis, the team includes her parents, Ron and Gail; her sisters, Kendra and Kathleen; her aunt, Bev Fry; and cousin, Kathy Drennan.

This is the first year the Gutsy Walk is being held in Walkerton. Last year, It's All Gone To Shitz travelled to Owen Sound to take part in the three-kilometre Gutsy Walk. The team raised a total of $2,885, making it the No. 1 team in Grey-Bruce.

The regional goal was $2,000 and a total of $9,475 was raised. Canada-wide, the walk raised almost $3.1-million for Crohns and Colitis Canada. All proceeds fund research to help find a cure for debilitating IBDs (irritable bowel diseases).

With just a month remaining until this year's walk, It's All Gone To Shitz welcomes new team members Alyssa Kueneman and Harold Maurer. The team is walking in honour of its captain, Emily, who is also the Grey-Bruce honourary chairperson for the 2015 Gutsy Walk.

Emily is 21 years old and has been living with ulcerative colitis for about six years. She was diagnosed three years ago after going three years with no diagnosis or the wrong diagnosis.

"When I was first diagnosed, I was very happy and extremely scared all at once," she says. "I was happy because I finally knew what was going on with my body, and extremely scared because I was now facing a chronic disease that had no cure."

Living with the disease has been very hard, says Emily. "From losing friends, because you don’t look sick, to being stuck in your own home because you are to afraid to leave. Now that I know what I have, I am working with doctors to find the best regimen for me to keep me healthy and symptom-free.

"I am fighting this illness and all I can say is that I’m not going to let ulcerative colitis determine who I am; I am going to live my life, my way. Life Takes Guts!

"I am honoured and very excited to be the Grey-Bruce honorary chairperson for Gutsy Walk 2015. The Gutsy Walk and Crohns and Colitis Canada are going to help people like me find a cure. Make it Stop. For Life!"
