Kincardine MS Walk raises almost $23,500

Organizers of the Mandarin Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Walk in Kincardine are elated that the event surpassed the $23,000 goal, bringing in a total of $23,465 for the MS Society.

Held Sunday morning, May 3, beginning at the Davidson Centre, it drew 120 walkers, dressed in brilliant red and white, walking for a cure.

The "Too Inspired to Be Tired" team received the trophy for the top fund-raiser at last year's walk. The 12-member team, ranging in age from nine months to 72 years, hails from Walkerton, Wingham, Mildmay and London, and raised $4,785 in 2014. One youngster on the team asked for donations to the MS Walk instead of gifts, for her ninth birthday.

"My sister, Joanne Parker, was diagnosed with MS in 2010," said Shelley Moyer of Stoney Creek, who accepted the award. "I'm so proud of her. She inspires the rest of us to work to raise funds and raise awareness about MS."

MC Julie B. of CKNX, welcomed everyone and congratulated the walkers on making the choice to participate in the MS Walk, to make a difference, to fight, and to work to find the most-promising research to eradicate this disease.

The Penetangore Pipe Band led the walkers outside and they were off, walking either a two-kilometer or five-kilometre route.

Last year, the walk drew 125 participants, raising $22,373 for the MS Society.

Contrary to what is announced in the video, it's the Penetangore Pipe Band leading the crowd of participants in the Kincardine MS Walk, Sunday morning, May 3
