PCS ELECT BROWN AS NEW LEADER OF THE PARTY
May 13, 2015
The Ontario Progressive Conservatives (PCs) have elected their new leader, the MP for Barrie, Patrick Brown.
"It was a long, well-fought leadership race," says Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson, who had endorsed Christine Elliott for the job.
"I am pleased we have a leader now, so we can begin to unite as Progressive Conservatives to defeat Kathleen Wynne and the Liberals in the next election."
Brown served two terms on Barrie city council from 2000-2006. In 2006, he ran in the federal election and has been the MP for Barrie ever since.
"It was great to see the more than 76,000 memberships across the province sold by all candidates," says Thompson. "In Huron-Bruce, we have 750 provincial members and had a 74-per-cent voter turn-out. It truly reflects the positive direction our party is going. We need to keep this momentum strong right through to 2018."
Brown won 83 out of 107 ridings across Ontario.
