Kincardine Minor Hockey and partners offering low-cost entry program

Kincardine Minor Hockey has partnered with the Toronto Maple Leafs, BAUER Canada, NHL, NHLPA and Hockey Canada to provide a positive experience for new-to-hockey families by offering a low-cost entry program.

The NHL/NHLPA First Shift Program aims to make hockey accessible, affordable, safe and a fun atmosphere where children, ages six to 10, who have never previously been registered in minor hockey, can learn the game.

For a $199 registration fee, each player will receive a full set of BAUER equipment (helmet with face mask, neck guard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, jock/jill, pants, shin pads, skates, socks, jersey, hockey bag and stick) fitted by NHL/NHLPA First Shift experts, and a minimum of eight one-hour ice times where a Hockey Canada Curriculum is delivered by qualified instructors. Hockey Canada Insurance is also provided.

“The goal is to offer a fun range of hockey experiences to stimulate a desire for continued participation in hockey,” says Bob Richards, Kincardine Minor Hockey First Shift co-ordinator.

“The welcome event (where children get their gear) is Thursday, Sept. 26, at 6 p.m. On-ice times begin Sunday, Oct. 6, at 12:15 p.m., and run for nine weeks on the same day of the week at the same time.”
