Kincardine Kippers celebrate 2019 season with awards night
The Kincardine Kippers Swim Team celebrated the end of the 2019 season with a family swim, potluck supper and awards ceremony, Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the Davidson Centre.

The Kippers executive, president David Kohut and treasurer Mike Specht, thanked all the volunteers for another successful year. Each swim meet required parents to volunteer as timers, runners and judges.

During the season, most of the swim coaches were volunteers as well. Head coaches were Joe Casciano and Ken Corbett; and assistant coaches were Brent Urie, David Kohut, Heather Boettinger, Vy Waller, Sara MacDonald and Jenna Row.

Swimmers who competed at the swim finals, held at the Wilmot Recreation Complex in Baden, Saturday, Aug. 10, were presented with their ribbons and medals.

As well, the following special awards, were presented:

B.A. Eggleton Award (for the boy and girl who have shown team spirit and sportsmanship, chosen by the Kippers swimmers; swimmers can win this award only once) - Lucas Bronkhorst and Natalie Doran

Peter Dingle Award (for the boy and girl who have shown team spirit and sportsmanship, chosen by the Kippers coaches; swimmers can win this award only once) - Abby Hegmans

Beta Sigma Phi Award – Most Improved Swimmer (for the boy and girl who have shown most improvement, chosen by the Kippers coaches), Lilly Egberts and Aaron Urie

Emma Johnstone Memorial Award – Love of Swimming (for the swimmer who demonstrates those special qualities that Emma did, chosen by the Kippers coaches) - Avery Chilton

The Kippers coaches will be meeting soon to start plotting the team's strategy for the next competitive season. We have a number of ideas to improve the quality of coaching and with your support, we expect to have an even better season next year.

The winter session begins in mid-January, 2020, running through to March. The spring/summer competitive session will begin in mid-April, running through to the end of July. Look for the notices, announcing registration as well as on the team's Facebook page.
