Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band holding information session Oct. 28
Help keep the tradition of the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band alive!
Founded in 1908, the Kincardine Scottish first hit the street in late 1909, marching with a membership of five pipers, four drummers and a drum major. For the next 110 years, the band's ranks have varied from as little as nine, to now boasting about 45 regular members.
Through those many years, which included a depression, two world wars, the advancement of atomic energy and a significant growth and development in the general landscape of Kincardine, the band has become a part of the cultural and traditional fabric of this community.
As the group's membership matures, it faces a new challenge and as such, there is a need to engage the next generation of pipers and drummers to ensure the Kincardine Scottish marches on into the next century.
In an effort to meet this challenge, the band is hosting an information session at the Royal Canadian Legion, 219 Lambton Street, Kincardine, Monday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m.
This informal gathering will be brief and aimed at sharing opportunities to participate in piping or drumming instruction with the aim of joining with band as it keeps the tradition alive!
They teach ‘em all, big and small … no prior music instruction required.
