Good things happening along the shoreline, says Healthy Lake Huron

For those living along the shoreline or interested in shoreline issues, Healthy Lake Huron (Clean Water, Clean Beaches) has released its 2015 information newsletter which highlights some of the environmental work under way to protect and improve water quality along Lake Huron’s shoreline, from Sarnia to Tobermory.

Healthy Lake Huron (Clean Water, Clean Beaches) is a team of dedicated environmental professionals, including federal and provincial ministries, local governments, public health agencies, conservation authorities, community groups, landowners, and residents, working together to make good things happen!

In this case, conservation work has been focused on five key watersheds identified as priorities for immediate action, including the Pine River, Garvey Creek-Glenn Drain, Lambton Shores, Main Bayfield and Bayfield North.

Projects include planting wetland vegetation, shrubs and trees; assisting with the recovery of the Piping Plover (an endangered bird species); the research and impact of plastic pollution in Lake Huron; soil conservation and health; the importance of cover crops; conservation farming; and much more!

Visit healthylakehuron.ca for more information and to download a copy of the newsletter. Print copies are also available at most local municipal offices or contact your local conservation authority.
