Thanks to our great community for help during and since barn fire

To our family, friends, neighbours and the Kincardine community:

As many of you know, we lost our hog barn to a massive fire last month. We are very thankful that our family is safe, which is absolutely the most important part of this whole experience.

First of all, our deepest gratitude goes to our neighbour, Stan Janzen, for seeing the fire Oct. 21, calling 911 and then calling us. If it were not for his quick response, both barns may have been a complete loss.

Thank you to the South Bruce OPP, Kincardine, Ripley, Tiverton and Teeswater fire departments and the Kincardine Emergency Medical Services, we cannot thank you enough for your efforts to contain the fire, limiting the damage to only one barn and not both.

Thanks for the ongoing support from organizations and companies that have been involved with the clean-up in the aftermath of fire: the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Synergy, Ontario Pork, and the insurance companies.

The compassion and generosity that have been shown to us began while the fire was still burning and continues each day. It has been overwhelming. Friends have helped with the care of the children, brought meals, gift cards and gift baskets. Thank you to everyone who took time out of their very busy lives just to reach out to see how the family was doing, and offering their help and sending their prayers.

We certainly have a long road ahead, but it is so comforting to know that we are not alone. We are eternally grateful for everything the community has done for us. We are truly humbled by it all.

We will never forget the incredible support you have all given us. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
