The Kincardine Community Singers are not only bringing you some fabulous music in their spring concert, "Songwriters Circle," they are also featuring some superb local talent in a pre-concert show.
The concert, slated for June 6 and 7, at Knox Presbyterian Church, Kincardine, features the music of such singer/songwriters as Ian Tyson, Leonard Cohen, Freddy Mercury, and more. The choir performs under the direction of Patt Lowry with accompaniment by Brenda Manderson, as well as Karen Weber on bass, Mike Smith on drums, Dwayne Ellis on percussion and Brian Tovey on harmonica.
The added bonus for this show is, beginning at 7:30 p.m. both nights, the pre-concert will showcase well-known local singer/songwriters, including Kolton Stewart, Brontae Hunter, Serena Rutledge, Steve Deer and Beth Patton.
Kolton has his own TV show, "Some Assembly Required," and has just been cast in the movie, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2." He has also appeared on the "Ellen Degeneris" show. While Kolton will definitely be at the Saturday night show, he may not make the Sunday night concert.
Brontae is a professional singer, performer and teacher. She is performing in the Kincardine Lighthouse Blues Festival again this year.
Serena is a little younger than Kolton and Brontae. Although she is still in elementary school, she has several videos on YouTube, and has performed at the Lighthouse Blues Festival.
Deer has played guitar for many groups and bands, and is also a singer-songwriter. He will be accompanying the Community Singers for several of their songs during the concert.
Patton has family connections with the choir. She sings and writes in a folk style, often about the area where she lives.
All this fine local talent can be seen and heard for the price of admission to the Community Singers concerts, simply by coming early to the shows, Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7, at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $15 each in advance, available at Jerome Flowers in downtown Kincardine, or from any choir member, or on-line at KincardineCommunitySingers.ca. Tickets are $18 each at the door.
