Bulldogs, Wolves lose in hockey action at Kincardine fund-raiser

It was a tough day for the local teams as both the Kincardine Junior “C” Bulldogs and the Ripley Senior “A” Wolves lost in hockey action, Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.

The 'Dogs and Wolves were taking part in a special day of hockey, draws and entertainment, in support of Kincardine hockey coach Shawn Burrows who was injured in a car accident on his way to coaching the Ripley Wolves in Elora. He was airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital where he has been in the Spinal Trauma Unit ever since.

He underwent surgery on his neck and spine Dec. 1, and will have a long road to recovery, including several weeks of rehabilitation, meaning he will incur many expenses and be off work for quite some time.

The Wolves took on the Durham Thundercats but ended up on the losing end of a 5-2 score.

Ripley continues to hold first place in the league standings, and is home to the Tavistock Royals, Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020, at 7 p.m., at the Ripley Arena.

Meanwhile, the 'Dogs faced the Wingham Ironmen and were unable to hold onto a 3-1 lead, ending up on the short end of a 4-3 score.

Tyler Sutter opened the scoring for the Bulldogs midway through the first period, assisted by Trevor Donaldson and Jerrid Fossold. Wingham tied it up on the powerplay before Jordan Caskenette scored on the powerplay from Logan Swanton, making it a 2-1 game for Kincardine.

Mike Fiegehen put the 'Dogs ahead by two, scoring the lone goal in the second period, from Swanton and Caskenette.

The Bulldogs took a 3-1 lead into the third, and then ran out of steam, allowing Wingham to score three unanswered goals and take the game, 4-3.

The 'Dogs travel to Mitchell, Saturday, Dec. 28, and are back at the Davidson Centre, Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020, to take on Mitchell; and Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020, at 7:30 p.m., to face Goderich.
