KDSS swim team captures overall junior title at District 10 meet in Guelph

KDSS swim team captures overall junior title at District 10 meet in Guelph
Tuesday, the Ecole Kincardine District Senior School Swim Team travelled to the University of Guelph for the District 10 meet, the team's CWOSSA qualifier.

The Knights pulled off an all-time record showing at the meet, capturing the junior title in combined points for boys and girls.

A huge congratulations also goes to Lucas Bronkhorst for capturing the junior boys individual title; to Abby Hegmans for placing second overall in the junior girls, and to Taylor Carney and Lily Egberts who tied for third place. 

And last but not least, in the overall standings, Jacob Sylvester achieved a second-place finish in the senior boys overall points title. 

First out of the gates, was the heavily-anticipated junior girls medley team of Kennedy Urie, Abby Hegmans, Elle Cottrill and Taylor Carney. They opened the meet with 1st place in the team medley.

Also powering to a third-place podium finish, was the junior girls free relay team of Morgan Talbot, Allison Carnell, Kristen Jackson and Lily Egberts. Both junior girls relay teams will proceed to CWOSSA.

Top-three finishes in individual events, were as follows (*denotes swimmers who will race at CWOSSA):

  • *2nd - 50 m Jr Breast

  • 1st - 50 m Sr Back

Zack Eybergen
  • 3rd - 50 m Sr Free
  • 3rd - 100m Sr Free

Chris McLarty
  • 3rd - 100m Jr Free

Abby Hegmans
  • *1st - 50 m Jr Breast
  • *2nd - 100 Jr IM
  • 3rd - 50 Jr Fly

Lilly Egberts
  • *1st - 50 m Jr Free
  • *2nd - 50 m Jr Fly
  • *2nd - 50 m Jr Back

Taylor Carney
  • *2nd – 50 m Jr Free
  • *2nd - 100 m Jr Free
  • *3rd - 50 m Jr Back

Elle Cottrill
  • *2nd - 50 m Jr Breast

Liam Fitzgerald qualified in his *100 m Free in the extremely competitive open class.

Also qualifying for CWOSSA, are Kennedy Urie - *50m Jr Back, Sr. Girls; *Free Relay Team of Kaitlyn Jackson, Katelyn Chilton, Zora Williams and Lianne Merchant, and the *Open Boy’s Relay Team of Zach Eybergen, Lucas Bronkhorst, Jacob Sylvester and Liam Fitzgerald.

It was a phenomenal race day for the KDSS Knights, and they aren’t finished yet! Best of luck to the swimmers as they compete at CWOSSA next Wednesday (Feb. 19) at the Wilmot Recreation Centre in Baden. Go Knights, Go!
