London artist Barbara Hamilton has brought her most recent paintings and photography for a display in the guest gallery at the Victoria Park Gallery in downtown Kincardine, for the month of June.
This time, her acrylic-on-wood paintings combine her interest in the Mexican holiday, "Day of the Dead," and the "Big Eyes" work of Margaret Keane.
"My husband and I dressed up as people from 'Day of the Dead' on Halloween and we won best costume," says Hamilton. "I like the look of the 'Big Eyes' so there they are in the paintings."
Her photographs depict the Beach House, Kincardine Harbour and the Erie Belle Boiler. The photos have been enhanced on computer and put in frames, made by her and her husband.
As for the fine art dolls, Hamilton just finished "Morticia" before heading up to Kincardine for the show. She enjoys working in the mixed media, and plans to continue making the dolls and the paintings with the "Day of the Dead" theme.
Born and raised in Kincardine, Hamilton moved to London at the age of 18 to pursue post-secondary education. She studied photography for three years at Fanshawe College, and worked at that for a decade before going back to school at the University of Western Ontario for nursing.
She graduated in 2008 and works as a trauma nurse. She is married and her daughter is almost two.
Hamilton is not new to the guest gallery in Kincardine. She was the guest artist in October, 2014, and had shows in 2011 and 2012. She has had her work shown in Florida, and this fall, is attending a show in California.
