Readers respond to yard waste location and re-opening the dump

RE: “Kincardine dump to re-open next week; more events cancelled due to COVID-19”
I have to disagree with Kincardine councillor Dave Cuyler regarding the yard waste location in Connaught Park being a disaster.
I used it during my yard clean-up and was there several times, including Saturdays and Sundays, at various times. During those times, all the users obeyed the two-vehicle rule and social-distancing and waited in line until their turn came up.
Yes, there was a lot of compost there but what do you expect when the area was smaller than the landfill and many people were using it as there was no alternative? To complain and say it was a disaster because it had to be removed by municipal trucks is ridiculous! What did you expect?
At least it provided work for the municipal employees during this time. What else could they have been doing and still have not? Maybe ... cleaning up the public beach areas from all the washed-up tree trunks and debris, removing the stones on the lawn by the rock garden, fixing the staircases to the beach areas that need to be repaired, etc.
Under the circumstances, the yard waste location was very much appreciated by all of the taxpayers some of whom did their own clean-up seeing that the lawn and maintenance companies could not do it for them, while others who enjoy gardening and getting their gardens cleaned up, had the opportunity to get a head start because of having to stay home.
So, to say it was a disaster may be your opinion councillor Cuyler, but to many of us taxpayers it was well-received and very much appreciated!

To the Editor:
The landfill site should be re-opened as soon as possible.
With respect to social-distancing, I have yet to go to the landfill site and stand next to a person putting stuff in the bins or any other place there for that matter.
People are always six feet or more away from each other.
Councillor Dave Cuyler said that the dump site at the ball park is a total disaster. He’s right.
