Providing public washrooms is just public decency, says reader
To the Editor:
RE: “Kincardine should realize visitors need washrooms, says reader”

I strongly agree with the author of the letter. But it’s not just a Kincardine problem.

I had to unexpectedly drive a relative to Walkerton hospital, Friday, for some urgent imaging. By the time I was able to pick up the person at the Kincardine hospital, drive to Walkerton and wait while the imaging was done, I was desperate to use a bathroom.

The hospital staff wouldn’t allow me to use the facilities, since the appointment wasn’t mine. I had to wait outside.

I drove to Tim Hortons - nope, the washrooms there are closed also. I asked staff members there if they knew of a public place to use a bathroom. They said, not to their knowledge.

This is inhumane - and also a public health problem. When people HAVE to go, they are going to find a place to go.

This closing of public washrooms is ill-considered and cruel. It will not keep people from travelling, and some people have very legitimate reasons to do so.

Having public washrooms available is just public decency.

Regards,
Lynn Collins
