Recreational space should not be used for garbage, says reader
To the Editor:
RE: “Neighbour concerned Connaught Park becoming a dump site”
Unfortunately, Kincardine recreation director Karen Kieffer’s response to my concerns is just blowing smoke.
The horticultural shed at Connaught Park is not the problem. What I suggested was that the fenced area where the old dump transfer station and lagoon are located on Bruce Avenue, would make a more suitable area to store materials. There is no need to spend additional tax dollars on fencing when a secure area already exists in town.
Why is there a pile of unused garbage cans, picnic tables stacked three high, previously stored under the grandstand, a wooden platform used during the reunion, construction waste, basketball stands, etc., etc.?
It doesn’t matter how tidy the employees keep it, these are all liabilities. Connaught Park is being enhanced in general but the southeast corner has become the catch-all.
As to AECON, temporary or not, I question why Connaught Park is considered a suitable construction site as it has been for the past four or five years. This is not AECON’s fault but, it is that of the parks director for allowing recreational space to be used for construction purposes.
Please remember that Connaught Park is in a residential area unlike the Bruce Avenue site.
Sincerely,
Frances Clark
