Thank you to our amazing Kincardine and Tiverton firefighters

To the Editor:

We don’t know how many residents have ever had to use our emergency fire services, but we want to give a shout out to them – they are amazing! 

Unfortunately, we had an electrical house fire a few weeks ago. We have never experienced something as stressful as seeing our house burn and full of black smoke. The firefighters came immediately from the Kincardine station, and the Tiverton station firefighters arrived shortly after, along with other emergency services.

They were all compassionate, caring and made sure we were okay while at the same time, doing a wonderful job putting out the fire and checking for hot spots. Since I was working from home, due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, the firefighters grabbed my computer so it would not be smoke-damaged. 

Our kitten was in the house and the firefighters kept searching for her. They came out about 20 minutes later with her but the kitten was not moving. A special firefighter resuscitated her and then gave her oxygen so I was able to run her to Kincardine Veterinary Services to be placed in an oxygen chamber overnight. 

All of the firefighters stayed until the hot spots were out, and made sure we were okay before they left. We appreciated that so much!

We hope no one ever goes through this experience, but if you do, you will be well taken care of by the wonderful, caring and compassionate firefighters from the Kincardine and Tiverton fire stations!

To our neighbours, Chrissy, Jamie and Amanda, thank you so much for your support; it was greatly appreciated!

We are blessed to live in such a caring community and I thank all of you for asking what we need or what you can do, but honestly, we are doing well. The insurance company has been helpful and, hopefully, we will be back in our house by Christmas time.
