Kincardine should be promoting “quaint downtown shopping,” says reader
To the Editor:
RE: “Downtown Kincardine resident questions site plan for development next door”

Russ Coultrup is right on with this letter.

Kincardine is supposed to be a tourist attraction for its “quaint downtown shopping,” but Kincardine council seems to think that the taxes from these apartments will be worth losing the “local atmosphere” of the downtown.

Parking during business hours is sketchy enough as it is now, and it’s really hard for people with physical problems.

Kincardine and the shoppers certainly don’t need another 20 apartments in our downtown core.

For YEARS, Kincardinites have been crying for more of a selection in stores so that we don’t have to travel to Goderich, Port Elgin, Owen Sound, Hanover, Kitchener, London, or Sarnia, etc., especially during the unpredictable winters.

Why isn’t Kincardine council promoting attractive and practical stores, such as Marks Work Warehouse, to bring their business to our “quaint” downtown? The men in Kincardine shouldn’t have to travel to the towns and cities miles away to purchase coats, sweaters, pants and shirts.
