Cottager disappointed at complaint voiced by local resident
To The Editor:
RE: “Cottagers must stay at home, says reader”

As a cottager from May to October, I am disappointed to read a Letter to the Editor posted on April 12, complaining about businesses and streets being busier than usual because the cottagers must be enjoying the use of their cottages. Further, suggesting that the local authorities hire students to turn off the water penalizing them for coming to their cottages.

I would like to remind locals that we cottagers help finance all the regional services enjoyed year-round by full-time residents, including recreation centres, fire, water, libraries and more (your civil servants), services which many of us enjoy only part of the year. We pay more than our fair share.

As responsible adults, asking cottagers to co-operate by encouraging them not to overwhelm the local hospital by staying home if they’re sick, seems an appropriate approach.

I believe most cottagers, like myself, hope that this negative response to our presence isn’t shared by the community at large.
