Piers should be closed during days of gusty wind, say readers

RE: “Toronto man was adult who died trying to save teens at pier in Kincardine”
Can we, as a municipality, please take responsibility to close the beaches and piers prior to these almost annual drowning incidents?
Posting signs does not work.
I feel the police presence should be at the lake prior to these events.
Police need to tape off beach access before the accidents, not after. I feel this would take less police time, preventing entrance when the lake is dangerous, clearing the area for public safety, rather than the resources needed to respond to these devastating accidents and so often loss of a life.
We do not need any more brave heroes in Kincardine. These tragedies scar families, friends and emergency crew’s lives forever - each event refreshing the nightmares they have to live through again and again.
Let’s get to work on developing prevention in lieu of response.
My thoughts go out to the family of Kincardine’s most recent hero.

How very sad this is, being swept off the pier and a Good Samaritan losing his life.
Unfortunately, the message is not getting out there about the high wind days we get here in Kincardine, be it tourists or local people.
The piers NEED to be CLOSED when high winds are gusting.
My heart goes out to the gentleman’s family for such a tragic loss.
