Huron OPP report speeder; racer; and drug charges

DRIVER STOPPED FOR SPEEDING – LATER FAILS ROADSIDE TEST

(BLUEWATER, ON) – A 29-year-old woman is facing charges of Speeding & Drive Motor Vehicle – Over-80 Milligrams of Alcohol, following a traffic stop Dec. 5. 

Just before 8:30 p.m., a Huron County OPP officer observed a black Toyota Corolla travelling southbound on London Road at a high rate of speed. The officer measured the vehicle’s speed with a RADAR device and locked the driver’s speed at 107 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. 

A traffic stop was initiated and the Corolla was pulled over just south of Hensall on London Road. Upon speaking with the female driver, the investigating officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol. A roadside screening test was administered and the driver registered a fail. 

She was arrested for Driving a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. She was transported to the Exeter OPP detachment where she provided two samples of her breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician. Both of her tests registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 29-year-old Tiffany DERUELLE of Goderich has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. She has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich, Jan. 5, 2015. She received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and her motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

RACING CHARGE LAID AGAINST YOUNG DRIVER

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – A 20-year-old driver on his way into Goderich for dinner will now have to answer to a Racing charge in Provincial court.  

Shortly after 9 p.m., Dec. 1, a Huron County OPP officer spotted a Dodge Charger travelling southbound on Bluewater Veteran’s Highway near Sheppardton Line at an extremely high rate of speed. The officer was following behind the speeding vehicle and was able to confirm the vehicle’s speed with a RADAR device. The vehicle was locked at a speed of 151 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. 

A traffic stop was completed and the driver was charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle. 

Matthew WARD, 20, of Amherstburg will have to attend Provincial Offences Act Court – Goderich, Jan. 6, 2015, to answer to the charge. His motor vehicle was also impounded for a seven day period.

DRIVER ARRESTED AT RIDE PROGRAM

(GODERICH, ON) – A 25-year-old driver of Huron-Kinloss Township is facing three charges after he was stopped at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint this past weekend.   

Just before 4:30 p.m., Dec. 5, a red Chevrolet Impala entered a RIDE checkpoint located at the intersection of Maitland Road South and Walnut Street. 

Upon speaking with the male driver, the officer detected the odour of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver was questioned about the odour and he admitted to having some marijuana inside the vehicle. A subsequent check also revealed the driver held a suspended driver’s licence. 

As a result, the driver was placed under arrest and charged.

25-year-old Michael McPHERSON of Huron-Kinloss has been charged with Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance – Marijuana, Drive While Under Suspension and Fail to Surrender Insurance Card. He was released from custody with a court date scheduled for Jan. 19, 2015, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

SPEEDER CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – A 33-year-old driver of Waterloo was recently caught speeding and in possession of marijuana. 

Nov. 30, a Huron County OPP officer was patrolling on Amberley Road near Whitechurch when he encountered an Acura travelling eastbound at a high rate of speed. The officer confirmed his observations with a RADAR device and measured the vehicle’s speed at a high of 113 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.

Upon speaking with the driver, the officer noted the smell of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver was questioned about the odour and he handed over a quantity of marijuana to the officer. The drugs were seized and the driver was charged.

As a result of the traffic stop, David LEGATE, 33, of Waterloo has been charged with Speeding and Possession of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana. He will have to attend court at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich, Jan. 12, 2015, to answer to the charges.
